Bringing Experience, Empathy and a Personal Touch to Paediatric OT in Kent
We’re delighted to introduce Leighanne, who joined the Building Blocks Therapy team in 2026 and is now welcoming new referrals across Sittingbourne and the surrounding areas of Kent!
At Building Blocks Therapy, we believe that great occupational therapy is about much more than assessments, reports and therapy programmes. It’s about understanding the child, getting to know their family, recognising their strengths and finding creative, practical ways to make everyday life a little easier.
And that’s exactly what Leighanne brings to our team!
An OT with a very personal understanding
For Leighanne, occupational therapy isn’t just a career — it’s something that has touched her own family’s life. As a mum to a child with special educational needs (SEN), Leighanne has experienced first-hand the difference that the right therapeutic support can make. In fact, it was the transformative support her own son received that inspired her passion for paediatric occupational therapy. This gives Leighanne a valuable perspective. She understands that behind every referral is a child with their own personality, interests, strengths and challenges — and a family who wants the very best for them.
Her approach combines professional knowledge with genuine empathy, recognising the importance of listening to parents, celebrating small achievements and finding strategies that actually work in everyday life.
Creative, practical and child-centred therapy
Leighanne has worked in a variety of settings, including specialist schools, private practice and an outdoor therapy centre. This breadth of experience means she understands that therapy doesn’t always need to happen sitting at a table!
Sometimes the most meaningful progress comes through play, movement, outdoor activities or practising the everyday tasks that matter most to a child. Whether she’s carrying out an assessment, developing individualised therapy goals or working alongside school staff, Leighanne focuses on making therapy meaningful, achievable and relevant to each child’s daily life. Her work is evidence-based, strengths-focused and always tailored to the individual.
Supporting the people around the child
One of the things we particularly value at Building Blocks Therapy is collaboration. Children don’t develop skills in isolation, and the best outcomes often happen when therapists, families and education staff work together.
